Commuter bikes are a type of hybrid bicycle that is specifically designed for daily travel to and from work or school. For greater comfort, commuter bikes have a more upright seating position than a traditional road bike. They also have wider tires for greater strength. Standard features include racks or panniers for storage, mudguards and fenders to protect clothing, front and rear lights for increased visibility. Unlike "City Bikes" aka "Urban Street Bikes"- Commuter bikes are much closer to traditional road bikes in that more consideration is given to reducing weight, and increasing performance and range without compromising on storage. To increase range and speed, manufacturers are also starting to incorporate battery packs or small electric or gas engines for extended range and speed.
